Johnson County Old Settlers Day Parade -- September 9th, 2017, 10 AM
Saturday, September 9, 2017 the Greater Kansas City 2-Cylinder Club
participated in the 119th JoCoOld Settlers Days Parade. Seven members arrived
bright and early to unload in preparation for the "cruise" to the staging area.
Members lined up two wide with the earliest model tractors up front progressing
to the newer models in the rear. Participants included: Jay Pruett on his 1940
JD B with daughter Avery, Justin Read on his 1941 JD H with son Dalamar, Jon
Pirie on his 1949 JD MT, Bill Eagleburger on his 1950 JD AR, Lloyd Mesmer on
his 1958 JD 620 LP, Don Hrabik on his 1959 JD 430, and Harold
and Linda Kurzweil on his 1959 JD 630. The club was fortunate to be placed in the front
of the parade in the 11th position (of 160 entries) as it navigated the route
and crowd which reportedly exceeded 65,000 people. The weather was beautiful
and the tractors were well received by on lookers, many of whom clapped as the
club passed by. Jon Pirie, coordinator for the club's participation in the
event, was excited to learn the GKCTCC received the first place award in the
parade's "Antique Tractor" class which included a blue ribbon and $125.00 check.
Based on the grand nature of the event and fun had by all who participated,
count on participation in the Old Settlers Day parade annually moving forward.
